Mr. Diab is Senior Director of Strategy & Planning at Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Secretary General of Emirates Energy Award.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of New Orleans (1989), graduate of Hazardous Waste Institute at University of Louisville (1992) and an IRCA Quality Lead Assessor certification.

His career expands over 26 years of diversified experience in Business Planning, Strategy Development, Corporate Governance, Sustainability and HSE & Quality management Systems. He worked with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ADNOC Group (UAE) and Qatar Petrochemical Company before joining the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy in April 2011.

His is actively involved in strategic development of diversified energy sources, demand & supply management in Dubai and devising work plans for achieving Dubai Integrate Energy Strategy 2030.

Abdullah M. Albishi

Abdullah M. Albishi is the executive director of distribution services sector leading more than 230 employees to ensure the development and implementation of best practices, standardization and adoption of technology into electricity distribution Kingdom wide. He joined Saudi Electrify Company in year 1994 and served in various management positions in power distribution business unit.

Abdullah led numbers of business improvement teams and participated in countless cross-functional teams and committees. Currently, Abdullah is championing operational excellence in distribution initiative as part of SEC Accelerated Strategic Transformation Program aiming to make SEC a world-class company. Abdullah is also leading:

  • Smart meter implementation project in Saudi Arabia to replace\install 12 million meters by 2025

  • Advanced distribution automation projects with 10 control centers, 500 Grid Station & more than 500 thousands medium voltage switches

  • Go aluminum projects (maximize the usage of aluminum in distribution network) toward saving 10 billion SAR in capital investment with the coming 5 years.

  • Fiber to X initiative to establish a communication infrastructure for distribution BU needs

  • Geographical information system projects for distribution network

Mr. Abdullah M. Albishi holds a Bachelor Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering conferred with HONORS by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran - Saudi Arabia.

Andrew Shaw

Andrew Shaw has been Managing Director of Dubai Cable Company (Ducab), since 2007.  Ducab is one of the region’s premier manufacturing companies and employs over 1200 people in the UAE; manufacturing power cables for local and international customers.

The company is wholly owned by the UAE – 50% each by the Governments of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Prior to Ducab, Andrew was CEO of Prysmian Cables and Systems in China, and previously held management positions in Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea and Gateshead, UK for BICC, Pirelli and International Paint.

He holds a B.Eng from Imperial College, London and an MBA from London Business School.

Gert Hoefman

Gert Hoefman is the CEO of Oman Cables Industry and a board member of Oman Aluminium Processing Industries. He is also a member of the board of Associated Cables in Mumbai, India. He graduated as a Mechanical Engineer and has an MBA from TSM Business School. He has 24 years of experience in the cable industry and held several high-ranking positions in the Prysmian Group, as well as the position of Vice-President of Telecom Solutions at its Milan headquarters. He also held the position of Chairman of Eurotelcab, the European cable manufacturer’s organization in Brussels.

Ahmed El Sewedy

Ahmed El Sewedy, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC S.A.E. (www.elsewedy.com). In 1986, he took the lead in his family business, controlling the first private cable factory in EGYPT, Arab Cables Co., turning it into one of the largest worldwide-providers of integrated energy solutions with more than thirty production facilities in sixteen countries utilizing the qualities of more than 14,000 professionals and exporting a wide range of high quality & safe products to more than 110 countries around the world (Africa, Middle East, Europe and the Far East). During his years of leadership in this position, Ahmed increased the value of the business almost a hundred times and now ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC S.A.E. is listed in Cairo Stock Exchange having around $1.5 billion market CAP in 2016.

Charles Edouard Mellagui Maguy

Charles-Edouard is the President of Nexans in Qatar and CEO of Qatar International Cables Company since September 2011. Prior to that he was Vice President of strategy & business development for Nexans MERA (Middle East, Russia, Africa) region since 2007.

Prior to joining Nexans, Charles-Edouard was Vice President of International Operations at Valeo.

Charles-Edouard is a graduate from Ecole Centrale Paris (France) and London business School.

Mohammed Itani

Mohammed Itani CEO of Energya Cables Company, is a recognized leader in executive development having served a global client base since 2001. While working his way to the executive level, Mohammed has held a number of positions at increasing levels of responsibility, being in charge of Manufacturing, Quality Control, Plant Engineering, & Business Management.


Mohammed has been with Energya Cables for almost 15 years. His experience within the company spans many departments and areas; it has served as preparation for his current role as CEO, to which he was appointed in 2010.

Mohammed has many goals as CEO, including; providing great service to Energya Cables customer base, delivering quality products and services, promoting a positive work environment that employees can be proud of, and help in the realization of the company’s strategic intent while achieving targeted growth and becoming pioneers in high value products and process utilization.

Mohammed has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a master degree in engineering management degree from the American University of Beirut and an Executive Master's in Business Administration from the University of Purdue and Tias Nimbas.


Currently, he is in charge of a group of companies in Saudi and Egypt consisting of Energya Cables Co, Jeddah Cables Co., Energya Cables International, Energya Power cables and Energya Metals Co.

Volker Wendt

Director, Public Affairs

Volker Wendt is the Director of Public Affairs of Europacable, the association of the leading European wire and cable manufacturers. He is responsible for the association’s lobbying engagements, covering energy, telecommunication, environmental and industry policies in Brussels and across Europe.

Dr. Wendt has over 15 years of experience in EU Public Affairs. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Passau, Germany. He and his wife have one daughter.

Gunsang Lee

Regional Manager, GCC
LS Cable & System Ltd.

Gunsang LEE is GCC regional manager at UAE in LS Cable & System Ltd. (KOREA) since 2015. His main work focus is EHV cable system as well as Subsea Cable in the GCC. As a single window to regional key clients and global EPC contractors, he is very successful to develop sustainable partnership through several projects as a reliable total Cabling System Supplier.

LS has supplied EHV cable from 132kV up to 400kV to Governmental Energy Authorities including DEWA, FEWA, SEC in last 10 years as a one of Top 3 EHV cable system supplier in the GCC. Also, LS supplies Power Cable Joints and Terminations, Telecom Cable, Busbar and instrumental cable and accessories.

Prior to GCC regional manager, Gunsang LEE has worked as a Sales manager for EHV cable in the Bahrain, Qatar and UAE for 2.5 years and Marketing manager of company for Americas and India for about 3 years.

He holds B.A for management from Yonsei University, Korea and and MBA from UCLA, USA.

Marco Celentano

Marco, before opening the Middle East Branch, was Business Unit Manager for the Oil & Gas Sector of Cavicel

He holds a BBA from Bocconi University (Milan) and a MIB from UOWD (Dubai)


Simon Baker

Independent Consultant

Simon Baker is now working as an independent consultant based in the Middle East. Simon joined Middle East Specialized Cables (MESC) in 2012 and was the Vice President heading up its UAE business unit. Having started his career in lighting manufacturing, Simon entered the cable industry in 1991 with BICC in the UK, and has been in the Middle East in various manufacturing and management roles since 1996.

As well as Specialized cables, Simon has been involved setting up and running manufacturing units for Low Voltage and High Voltage cables. Simon holds Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in Manufacturing Technology Management from UK Universities.

Mehmet Erbuga

Mehmet Erbuga studied engineeirng and management at Politecnico di Milano. He has been working in Cable industry since 4 years. Had experiences with different cable applications in industries such as Oil and Gas, Railway, Elevator and currently responsible for the Sales and marketing activities for the solar business in the Middle East region.

Jan Tezcanli

Head of Fibre Business, Middle & Far East

Mr. Jan Tezcanli is regional head of Fibre Business for Ericsson, covering Middle and Far East markets based in Dubai, U.A.E.

Jan has worked in the fibre optics industry since the early 90s supporting FTTH projects in many markets ranging from Scandinavia to New Zealand. Half of his career (10+ years) he has spent in resident postings in Asia Pacific (Singapore and Thailand) leading technical sales support and business development teams incl. major consultative efforts with Regulators and Operators looking at FTTH from planning through implementation.

Jan has studied economics at Stockholm University, and been through various Global Executive Education programs incl. Thunderbird School of Management in Phoenix, AZ. USA.

Antony Douglas Falconer

Antony Falconer graduated with a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Cape Town in South Africa in 1983. He joined the City of Cape Town Electricity Department as an Engineer in Training, and then in 1990 moved to a company of Consulting Engineers, concentrating on all aspects of electricity supply infrastructure development. In 1998 he joined Aberdare Cables in South Africa as the Divisional Technical Manager – Power Cables. In 2015 he moved to Oman Cables Industry (SAOG), in the Sultanate of Oman, as the General Manager – Cable Engineering & Development.

He has been either a member, or the chair, of working groups responsible for the development of LV and MV standards and codes of practice, both within South Africa and internationally. He has also been a member of IEC working groups focussed on cables above 1 kV, and on burning characteristics of cables, and he chaired the South African national mirror committee of the IEC for TC20 (electric cables). He also served a 6 year term on Cigré Study Committee B1 (insulated cables), and has contributed to three of the study committee’s working groups.


Philip Radbourne

Mr Philip Radbourne, Director of Wire and Cable Business from Integer Research. Philip heads up the wire and cable research team at Integer Research Ltd. He is one of the founders of the company. Philip has managed market studies, which analysed a range of products from power cables, magnet wire, LAN data cables to copper telecom and fibre optic cables. He has also worked on a range of products from power cables to LAN data cables. He worked with management in a number of cable companies, covering company strategy, market analysis and technical studies.

Working for more than 20 years in the energy sector, after a technical training and experience in HV equipment he has started a commercial career in Coelme first and later on in Alstom Grid where he grow up to the role of country sales director. Since 2014 he is engaged in CESI as marketing and sales direct of the testing division, with laboratories in Milano, Berlin and Manheim.

Uberto Vercellotti

Born in 1959, received the Doctor’s degree in Electrical engineering from the Milan Polythechnic in 1984 and joined CESI in 1985. Working in CESI he has gained 30th years of experience in the cable sector where he has been engaged in testing different cables and accessories. He is involved in Standardization bodies like CENELEC and IEC e.g. since 2003 till now Chairman of IEC TC 89 "Fire hazard testing". He worked abroad, mainly in Europe but also in Azerbaijan, Russia, and Ukraine from 1998 till 2006.

He is now engaged in CESI Market and Product Development.

Bas Verhoeven

Mr. Verhoeven received an M.SC. degree in Power Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology before joining KEMA in 1991 as R&D specialist on digital protection systems for high voltage power networks. As of 1995 he worked as a consultant on international projects for high voltage power network design and protection. In 2000 he was appointed as manager of KEMA’s High Voltage Laboratory, which became the world’s largest commercially operated laboratory under his guidance. He was assigned as Director of KEMA Laboratories, including the High Power Laboratory and the High Voltage Laboratory, in 2011. Mr. Verhoeven now holds the position of Director for Business Development, Research & Innovation. He is a member of the Board of the NEC, the Dutch IEC, as well as Chairman of the international Short Circuit Test Liaison (STL), and has authored numerous papers on testing and certification of power components.”

Selman Unlu

Mr Selman Unlu was born in 1981. As a third generation he has been working in family business company, Sahra Kablo since 2005. Sahra Kablo was established in 1968 and produces only aluminium cables since 1990. For the past couple of years, Selman UNLU has been mostly carrying out types and production of Aluminium Flexible Cables.

Masaichi Suwa

Masaichi Suwa joined MERI/J in 2014 as the researcher of the world cable market and industries. He entered the cable industry in 1973 with Fujikura Limited in Japan after graduation from Keio Gijuku University. Masaichi worked in the Accounting Dept., the Domestic Sales Dept., a Joint Venture in Thailand, a Sales System Development Project and the Sales Planning & Marketing Dept.

He was acting Secretary General of Japanese Electric Wire & Cable Makers’ Association (JCMA)  for 2 years and upon  from Fujikura he worked for Viscas Corpration (Joint Venture between Fujikura and Furukawa Electric Industry) for 4 years as the director in charge of the Accounting Dept., the Planning Dept., the IT Dept. and the Domestic Sales Dept.

Masaichi is the specialist of the electrical cables in MERI/J and has issued 5 research reports such as “Current Status of the world HV Submarine Cable Market (Apr.2015)” and “Current Status of the World Automotive Wiring Harness Market (Apr. 2016)”. He is currently studying the Indian cable market.
