“In the last two months, we have been able to assess the performance of the world’s leading cable companies in 2011, and how they see the outlook for 2012.
The Eastern European cable industry saw impressive growth from 2004 through 2008. It has also bounced back from the financial crisis, with cable output reaching US$6.8 billion in 2011.
Integer has revised down forecasts for Q1 2012 marginally from November 2011, for a number of countries. Although on the surface the situation in the US and Germany appears to be more promising than expected last quarter, several leading economies such as Italy, and more worryingly France, saw their growth forecast for 2012 dented by the current macroeconomic problems.
The Eastern Europe cable industry saw impressive growth rates through 2000-2008, before being hit hard by the global financial crisis. Since then the cable industry has bounced back to become one of the fastest growing markets globally. According to Integer Research’s latest study – the Focus Report: Eastern Europe Cable Industry – cable output in the region will top US$7 billion in 2012 and demand will reach US$6.5 billion.
“Back in 2008, aside from a few patches of weakness in western Europe (notably Ireland, Spain and Portugal) demand growth globally was steaming ahead in Q1 2008, with high levels of investments in cable plant capacity in the Middle East, Russia and China particularly pronounced.”
