Heavy-Duty Diesel Engines
Israel’s standards for new heavy duty diesel vehicles mirror those set by the European Union. Euro V legislation has been in place for new vehicle models since October 2008 (October 2009 for all models), the same as the EU, with proposals currently in place for the introduction of Euro VI in January 2013 for new models (January 2014 for existing models).

New light duty vehicle standards are also based on European legislation, albeit with a time lag. Previous regulations were based on Euro 4 standards, which were introduced in October 2006 for new models (October 2007 for all models). Euro 5 standards came into force in January 2009 for new models (January 2010 for existing models).

Heavy-Duty Diesel Engines
Emissions from heavy-duty engines in Saudi Arabia were originally meant to be regulated by Euro II standards. However, these regulations have not been fully implemented, and issues regarding adequate enforcement exist.

Passenger Cars and Light Duty Vehicles
The current set of standards for new light-duty diesel vehicles are based on Euro 2 regulations. Originally, Euro 3 standards were meant to be introduced for new vehicle models as of January 2010. However, these regulations have yet to be approved, meaning that implementation of Euro 3 is still uncertain.

Heavy-Duty Diesel Engines
There are currently no standards in place that regulate emissions from diesel vehicles in the UAE (both for on-road and off-highway vehicles), apart from basic limits on carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is currently assessing plans for the introduction of Euro IV standards in the near future, to be quickly followed by Euro V legislation, although so far the actual implementation schedules have yet to be published.
