1. Executive Summary
2. Supply, Domestic Supply and Exports
This section considers global production and exports of UAN. It looks at production by country, company and plant and considers export flows since 2003. The section covers current issues affecting individual UAN producers and the overall supply balance of UAN.
2.1 North America
This section considers supply of UAN from key USA and Canadian producers including recently merged Terra, CF Industries, Coffeyville Resources, Koch Nitrogen, Potash Corp, and Agrium.
2.2 Europe
Included in this section is production of UAN by country, company and plant. European producers featuring in this section are Yara, Agrofert, Pulawy, Achema, InterAgro, and Fertiberia.
2.3 Former USSR
Key producers in this region are Eurochem,Acron, Kuaz, Stirol, Cherkassy and Grodno.
2.4-2.6 Other countries and region
The remaining sections include consideration of production and exports from the new UAN plant built by New Methanol Holdings in Trinidad, other exports from Egypt; Agentina’s UAN production by Bunge; and Australia’s UAN production by CSBP.
3. Demand and Imports
We provide global demand trends for single nutrient N fertilizers and current and future issues affecting the market, substitution between UAN and other straight nitrogen fertilizers, demand trends by country, and imports at country level.
3.1 North America
This section looks at single nutrient N fertilizer demand and substitution trends since 1960 in the USA, the world’s largest UAN market. Covers fertilizer demand by state, crop cultivation by state and UAN consumption by state.
3.2 Europe
Looking at the second largest global market, this section includes demand trends in UAN consuming European countries, substitution trends between single nutrient N fertilizers and intra-European and external imports since 2003. We show demand by province or region in France and Germany, the key markets.
3.3-3.5 Other
In this section, we look at growing Argentinean and Australian demand and imports for UAN and substitution trends between single nutrient N fertilizers.
4. UAN logistics
In this chapter we review UAN logistics and storage, including ownership, usage and capacity of storage terminals and tanks at the key locations around the world. This plays a key role in determining UAN trade flows.
5. UAN production costs
Here, we examine the production costs for the major existing UAN producers worldwide in order to develop a global UAN cost curve, including estimated costs for the new plant in Trinidad. Beside factory gate production costs, such as natural gas, we also consider transportation, logistics and handling costs, comprehensively covering total costs to market. By comparing market prices with production costs, we derive profitability by operator.
6. UAN market forecasts
In this section we present a comprehensive country by country forecast of UAN supply, demand, trade, and price developments for the next ten years. We examine the likely impact of new capacity on these balances.
