Giorgio Martini has a Nuclear Engineering degree obtained at the University of Rome, Italy. He has then worked from 1993 to 2002 in the research centre of a primary Italian Oil Company in the field of fuel quality and vehicle emissions. During this experience he has participated in many research activities devoted to the investigation of fuel quality effects on exhaust emissions and in several international working groups addressing several issues related to emissions from vehicles.
Since 2002, he has been working as scientific officer in the Transport and Air Quality Unit of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission.
He his in charge of several research programmes and experimental activities having the objective of providing sound technical and scientific basis for the development of the European policies in the field of fuel quality and vehicle emissions. In particular, he is involved in the development process of the future European emission standards (Euro 5/6 and Euro VI) and in international programmes like the UN-ECE Particle Measurement Programme.
