The US cable industry is dominated by a handful of major producers, mostly with a large diversified product line, and many smaller producers often with few products cater to the rest of the market. Privately owned producers are prominently represented in the US, including Southwire the largest wire and cable producer in North America.
Private equity and other investors with long term objectives have also played a major role in the industry, with notable investments including Berkshire Hathaway which purchased part of Marmon in 2007, Carlyle Group which acquired and delisted Commscope in January 2011 and KPS Partners which acquired United Copper Industries from its parent Industrias Unidas in September 2011.
