Structural change in Asian ferroalloy supply

Kevin Fowkes, director of ferroalloy research at Integer, chaired the second day of the Metal Bulletin Asian Ferroalloys conference in Hong Kong on 26th March. The second day of the conference was focused on structural supply issues in the Asian ferroalloy market, with Kevin chairing a distinguished panel of speakers from companies such as Sinosteel and Tata. You can download Kevin’s introduction presentation for the session, describing recent structural changes in Asian ferroalloy supply, here.

“Overall, the mood of the conference was extremely positive”, according to Kevin. “The change compared with six months ago was very noticeable. The talk is once again of demand growth and rising prices, but the difference is the much stronger dominance of Asia in the world ferroalloy markets following the global downturn. Also it is very apparent that upstream ore suppliers are seeing a faster price recovery than companies focused on smelting, in common with other related commodities such as iron ore”
